Scientific Interpretation, Not Just Laboratory Data

About

ABOUT EIGG INTERNATIONAL

EIGG International, formerly known as the Environmental Inorganic Geochemistry Group, was established in 1998 at Curtin University through a Vice-Chancellor’s Award. The group was founded as a collaboration between Professor John Watling from the Department of Chemistry and Associate Professor Ron Watkins from the Department of Geology, bringing together advanced analytical chemistry, inorganic geochemistry, and applied environmental science.

In 2016, EIGG International was registered with ASIC and moved into its current premises in Bibra Lake, Perth. Trading in Australia as Environmental Geochemistry Services, EIGG operates as a research and method-development-oriented laboratory and consultancy with broad analytical and testing capabilities for environmental, mining, industrial, and forensic applications.

Vision & mission

our Vision

To set a global standard in environmental geochemistry, chemical forensics, and analytical excellence, enabling better-informed, scientifically defensible, and sustainable decisions.

our Mission

To deliver high-quality analytical data, innovative methods, and specialist geochemical interpretation that provide reliable scientific evidence for understanding environmental processes, identifying sources, and supporting sound and sustainable decisions.

Our Team

Dr. Ron Watkins

Managing Director / Principal Environmental Geochemist

Dr. Ron Watkins is a geochemist and environmental scientist with more than 35 years of experience in geology, environmental geochemistry, and applied geochemical research. He has served as Managing Director of EIGG International since 2015, following his tenure as Associate Professor and Director of the Environmental Inorganic Geochemistry Group (EIGG) at Curtin University from 1994 to 2014.

His career also includes research and field experience at the University of Cape Town, with expertise spanning applied geochemistry, environmental investigations, and scientific research. He provides the scientific and technical leadership underpinning EIGG International’s environmental geochemistry capabilities.

Prof. John Watling

Chief Scientist / Principal Forensic & Analytical Chemist

Dr. John Watling is a forensic scientist and geochemist with more than 35 years of experience in forensic science, analytical chemistry, and applied geochemistry. He previously served as a Professor at The University of Western Australia (UWA) and holds advanced qualifications in Mining Geology and Geochemistry from Imperial College London.

His expertise includes forensic investigations, elemental and chemical fingerprinting, material provenance, traceability, and authentication using advanced analytical techniques including ICP-MS. With more than 120 scientific publications and extensive international research experience, he contributes specialist forensic and analytical expertise to EIGG International’s environmental, mining, and forensic applications.

Dr. David Oldmeadow

Senior Laboratory Manager

Dr. David Oldmeadow is an Environmental Geochemist with over 20 years of experience in water quality, environmental, and hydrogeochemistry across mining, environmental, and research sectors. He formerly served as WSP/Parsons Brinckerhoff’s Water Quality and Sustainability Manager and Curtin University’s Environmental Inorganic Geochemistry Lecturer and Laboratory Manager.

His expertise includes mine-site, groundwater, and hydrogeochemical investigations, contaminated land assessment, and monitoring QA/QC systems. He combines applied investigation and analytical interpretation to support water quality management and informed environmental decision-making.

Andi M. Fajrin, B.Sc, M.Phil
