Environmental Impact of Lignite & Black Shale Waste Rock

Project Overview

This research project investigated the potential environmental impacts associated with the storage of lignite and black shale waste rocks generated from mining activities at the South Jimblebar Iron Ore Mine in Western Australia.

The study focused on understanding the geochemical characteristics of these waste materials and their potential interactions with the surrounding environment during storage.

Through environmental geochemical assessment, the research aimed to identify potential environmental risks associated with mine waste storage and provide a scientific basis for understanding the long-term environmental behaviour of lignite and black shale waste rocks.
